The Blue Angels air show in Pensacola is a must-see event for all Americans. As my friend recently said, the Blue Angels make me want to cry tears of patriotism.

For those of you who don’t know who the Blue Angels are, first shame on you and second, its time to book a vacation on the Gulf Coast for the next air show!

The Blue Angels team was formed in 1946,making it the second oldest formal flying aerobatic team (under the same name) in the world, after the French Patrouille de France formed in 1931. A total of 16 officers voluntarily serve with the Blue Angels. Each year the team typically selects three tactical (fighter or fighter/attack) jet pilots, two support officers and one Marine Corps C-130 pilot to relieve departing members.

The Blue Angels air show is a jaw-dropping aerial performance that can only be appreciated if seen in person. Every year that I see the Blue Angels, I am equally amazed that show does not end in a catastrophic collision. It’s just crazy….enough said.

The show can be seen from the Pensacola Beach or, as many locals prefer, by boat in the back bays such as Little Sabine. Also, many boaters anchor on the gulf side if it is a calm day.

Our summers are spent in Orange Beach Alabama, where we manage Alabama beach rentals. Pensacola is approximately 1 hour away by car. However, we have only seen the Blue Angels show by boat. The boat ride is less than an hour, and the preferred mode of transportation to the air show by those of us who live on the Gulf Coast. Of course you can always see the Blue Angels from the Pensacola Beach, but prepare yourself for traffic and crowds.

The Blue Angels preform a dress rehearsal the day before the official show, and it is locally known as “family day.” To be completely honest, the dress rehearsal is just as good as the actual show and there are far less people (half of who are so drunk that they probably did not notice the jets).

The next Blue Angels air show will be Nov 7-9, 2014. If you are looking for an Alabama beach rental or Perdido Key rental for the event, call Prickett Properties at 1-800-210-7914. No, I am not a above a shameless self-plug.

I may live where most people vacation, but I am always at work!
